Henry's Story

Henry G.

From when he was 9 years old to his senior year of high school, Henry’s mother was married to an alcoholic. His mother, brother, and himself were both physically and mentally abused.. Due to his mother being dependent on her alcoholic partner financially, she felt hesitant about leaving him. When things at home became unbearable, Henry’s brother dropped out of school and left home at the age of 16. He lived out on the streets. .

Henry recalls a time when he came home from school and saw his drunken step-dad choking his mother. He knocked the man unconscious from slamming a vase onto his head and eventually called the police. That was the final straw.

Henry graduated from high school despite the trouble at home. His senior year was when his mother finally packed up and divorced her alcoholic partner.
